Born in the imagination of Bram Stoker at the end of the 19th century Dracula has gone on to become one of the most recognisable of Gothic villains and has been portrayed by more actors than any other horror character. Yet, while we all think we know Dracula, there are as many versions of the Count from Transylvania that are different, often knowingly so. Indeed, the more we look into who or what the King of the Vampires is we see that he, she, or even it, is more of an idea or an essence that can take many forms, from the monster of our nightmares to the lover and hero that saves the world as we know it.

This book then tells the stories of 100 different Dracula’s that have appeared on screen. From the famous to the obscure, and the scary to the absurd they can all be seen to be a part of what has made the figure of the Count so popular, even into the 21st century. As part of these tales of Dracula this volume features original interviews with many of the creatives that have given them undead life on screen, such as the actors Susan Penhaligon (Dracula 1977), Duncan Regehr (The Monster Squad), Rudolph Martin (Buffy), Patrick Bergin (Dracula 2002), Dolly Wells (Dracula 2020), and Ben Fransham (What We Do in the Shadows), and directors/writers like Kenneth Johnson (Travis Stevens (Jakob’s Wife), Oz Rodriguez (Vampires vs the Bronx), Peter Straughen (“Nosferatu in Love”), Guy Maddin (Pages from a Virgin’s Diary), and Todd Durham (creator of the Hotel Transylvania franchise).
